Concern over Khmer icons at Grand
Palace - Bangkok Post, June 10, 2004
[Ed.: Above and below are photos of the respective Angkor Wat
models in Bangkok and Phnom Penh. It is only a matter of time before
the one in Bangkok is moved to a nonpublic location. The reason will
be 'for preservation.']
...A miniature replica of Angkor Wat and a bronze statue of Cambodia's
sacred ox are in the Grand Palace compound.
...Mr Santi had been assigned to explain the two items to a group
of Cambodian reporters scheduled to visit the Grand Palace. He said
the miniature Angkor Wat was built since King Rama IV was impressed
with the glory of the ancient temple. The statue of the sacred ox
was erected as a symbol of the start of the Ploughing Ceremony.
