Mega-Bridge news: 70% done with cables to be installed in January and an opening date of December 2006 - translated and summarized by Wisarut Bholsithi from Thairath, November 28, 2005
The Provincial Highway Deputy told the press that the bridge across the Chao Phraya for the Industrial Ring Road is now 70% done. The contractors are working to install the road surfaces. The supporting cables will be installed in January 2006 and the project is done in late November 2006, ready for opening on December 5, 2006.

There will be a park on 70-rai of land under the interchange with museum buildings.
The first building for His Majesty, the second building for the Life of the Mon people in Pra Padaeng and the third building to show the evolution of bridges. Both sides of the bridges will have ferry piers (or even Chao Phraya Express Piers) to allow people to visit the museum and park. However, the Provincial Highway Department would have to consult with local
authorities as well as other related people.
After opening the bridge, the Provincial Highway Department would install LUD machines to prevent the bridge from collapse during storms and earthquake.

Jerry writes: Have you seen the newest bridge? Look at the Tower 4 on the Mega-Bridge and then look to the left and you will see a NEW bridge... The construction is shown clearly on Google earth, so it's been in progress for at least a year...
We think this is the bridge for the Kanchanaphisek Outer Ring Road (southern section).

Jerry writes: Today they have been erecting the blue hoist for the roadway erection on the Rama 3 Tower roadway. Also on the northern tower on the southern river crossing, they have installed the formwork to give the top of the tower a flare to finish it off...seems all the cable guide tubes are installed. For the southern river crossing, there will be 14 cables each side (56 total for both sides of both towers) of the bridge to carry the 390 meter span. For the northern span of 280 meters, there will be 11 cables each side of each tower. The two bridges are different heights i guess...
