Bangkok Post reports that 31 arches are being erected along Ratchadamnoen Avenue for the event. Anyone who was here for the 1996 anniversary will remember the spectacular arches erected for that occasion. The 1996 celebrations included a series of commemorative arches in various architectural styles--many based on fantastic Thai mythological themes. This photo (left) shows one of the arches near Sanam Luang in 1996. It is a series of clouds topped by royal symbols. The arches are temporary and removed after the celebrations.
